TRACKMANIA

INTRODUCTION

This time, I wanted to do something more personal. Something where I could talk with my heart, and more precisely, with my feelings, that go all the way back to my childhood. So, that's why the big TrackMania players will probably pass their way when they see my circuit. I do not offer a map for professional players under any circumstances. I offer something that speaks through my experience in motorsport.

In addition, you can see this as an invitation to enter a part of my world.

So, I decided to make a map clearly inspired by Supercross tracks with all that that implies.

A SHORT STORY…

When I was just a child (two years old), I asked my parents if I could do motocrossing. Of course, my father was delighted but not my mother. She used to say: "No, he's too young, he is only two years old!" However, she finally accepted. You do not want to see your children take risks so young. Today, I understand her point of view very well. It is true that motor sports are dangerous. It takes technique and the machines go fast.

Time passed and my passion for motorsports continued on growing. You know, in this kind of discipline, you feel unique sensations. You always want moreAdrenaline is a powerful thing. I have done a lot of motocross but I was also able to go jet skiing and quad biking because I am always looking for new experiences.

Today, I have much less time to practice and I must admit that I miss the cross-country and I would really like to drive again...

Rarely, two people not doing motocross came to the track with remote-controlled gas-powered cars. They came to do circuit laps while the cross men were on break. Moreover, not long ago, I thought about that memory and thought: "It is true that I have wanted to make a map for a racing game for a while now". So, I immediately thought about TrackMania. As I was thinking, I remembered that the editor offered earthy and muddy circuits. I concluded that I could try to adapt a motocross track for small cars like TrackMania.

MY INTENTIONS

My intentions are quite simple. I wanted to create a motocross circuit highlighting everything that has marked me in this sport. You will find pure technique, jumps, tight turns, acceleration phases and above all, a lot of dirt!
I invite players to discover the basics of motocross for beginners or the thrill for the more experienced. TrackMania players, I’m not forgetting about you. I had to break the motocross rules just for you.
You won’t find in this map any camera changes with looping or anything like that... just some nifty shortcuts. All that will be for another time. It had to be at least minimum coherent. Personally, I set my record fairly.

THE FAMOUS WHOOPS

Oh my god, the whoops… Probably the most difficult exercise as a beginner. When I was training with my father, he always told me: "either you jump them two by two, or you accelerate a little bit between each whoop."
I must admit that it left a deep impression on me. How can we not share this experience?

I felt compelled to put several of them because in reality, whoops allow good drivers to catch up or overtake less talented drivers. Whoops also allow you to quickly gain the upper hand over other drivers. They are usually positioned at the beginning of the track or towards the end. So I decided to place them at the beginning of the race.

It's very technical but extremely fun when you master this exercise. Even today, we can still see professional pilots who failed trying this.

ACCELERATION LINE

The must-see. What would a good motocross race be without big acceleration lines to try to overtake a little boldly or do the inside of the turn neck and neck of his rival? I positioned several acceleration lines mainly to dynamize the circus and give the player a sense of speed. However, be careful not to be too arrogant. In motocross, after a big acceleration, you often have to brake very hard to gain a maximum of seconds over your rivals. A word of advice, think about using your brake so as not to be surprised.

JUMPS

Clearly, that was the thing that made the biggest impact on me in motocross. It is a unique feeling. For a moment, you feel totally free, nothing reaches you. You are up in the air and the adrenaline is running high. It's just incredible. In this map, you will see that there is a lot of jumping, a subject that is very close to my heart, and I really wanted to make the players feel what I felt experiencing this. They are obviously exaggerated with turbochargers to give a feeling of flight. Furthermore, there are different jump variants to give originality to the map and a new "feeling" to each of them.

SHORTCUTS FOR TRACKMANIA FANS

As I said earlier, the shortcuts are there to please the Trackmania fans. Especially for those who are looking for the best time. Here are some examples in video format:

WHICH I COULDN’T DO

There are some things I couldn't adapt because TrackMania remains above all, a video game. The purpose of a game is to emancipate oneself from reality, so I had to make concessions. Motocross biking is not only about riding, it's also about endurance. To reinforce this, I would have liked to put several laps, as in competitions. However, it would be too much to ask to do so much with a long enough and a slightly technical circuit.

In addition, you must stay focused at all times. The slightest mistake and it's over.

To reinforce this, I would have liked not to put any checkpoints, to give a real impact on the error. But it's so frustrating. Imagine 16 laps without a checkpoint. It's hardly tenable.

CONCLUSION

Thank you for reading me and for your understanding. You have just learned more about me and my life and I hope you don’t mind. I find that telling something in a level design is really powerful. I love trying to share an experience or tell a story to the player. This gives credibility to our work and it is very important.
